Singapore, July 2025 — Professor Eni Maryani of Universitas Padjadjaran has been awarded the prestigious Nile Award by the Islam & Media Working Group (ISM-WG) at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) 2025 conference in Singapore. The accolade was presented on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, during the first panel session of ISM-WG.
Her paper, entitled “Media Activism on Zakat for Women Victims of Violence in Indonesia”, which she co-authored alongside Kismiyati Al Karimah (Universitas Padjadjaran) and Dyan Rahmiati (Universitas Brawijaya), was recognized for its originality and scholarly contribution to the study of Islam and media activism. Their research reveals how media-driven activism, grounded in Islamic philanthropic practices like zakat, can support women survivors of violence, fostering gender-responsive narratives and enhancing institutional accountability. This work resonates deeply with both SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by amplifying marginalized voices and promoting social equity through faith-informed media interventions.
