Jatinangor, 10th Mei 2023 – The Communication Management Study Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, through an international scale competition called Ideation, has held a webinar on the topic “Silence is Violence: Preventing Sexual Violence Against Women in Public Spaces”. This webinar was held online and invited speakers Desi Yunitasari, Founder of the Banyuwangi National Commission for Child Protection, and Devi Yusvitasari, Founder of Ruang Pandang Puan.
Head of the Expression Cabinet Communication Management Association, Zidan Erlangga, stated that the purpose of this Ideation webinar was to encourage university students to become agents of change who are courageous in dealing with issues of sexual violence, especially in public spaces.
The event started at 13:00 with Asti Nurul Widati as the moderator. The first guest speaker, Desi Yunitasari, presented data on sexual violence against women. Desi Yunitasari also discussed the phenomenon of the “bystander effect” where people are in danger but no one provides help. This phenomenon is often experienced by victims of sexual violence and is caused by two factors, namely the diffusion of responsibility and the feeling of seeing too much of the situation. Desi Yunitasari stressed the need to stop this phenomenon through education and public campaigns to prevent more cases of sexual violence in public spaces. The campaign will create legal awareness in society so that similar cases can be minimized. This campaign can influence people’s mindset (cognitive),

The second speaker, Devi Yusvitasari, Founder of Ruang Pandang Puan, explained how to create an effective campaign, including using messages, taglines, and hashtags, developing a grassroots strategy by involving campaign members to achieve specific petition targets, and making a national issue an issue. local. Devi Yusvitasari also gave an example of a successful campaign in the United States, namely the #MeToo movement which succeeded in increasing the culture of reporting cases of sexual harassment and influencing the International Labor Organization (ILO) to create international legal standards regarding sexual harassment in the workplace.
Furthermore, Desi Yunitasari and Devi Yusvitasari opened a question and answer session for the audience who wished to ask questions about the campaign, particularly regarding sexual harassment in public spaces. The Webinar Ideation “Silence is Violence: Preventing Sexual Violence Against Women in Public Spaces” ended at 14:50 with a documentation session and presentation of certificates to the two speakers by Hamdi Satrio, Project Officer Ideation.
