The Next Dev Telkomsel and Padjadjaran University held an event named “Respectacular! Unpad Hackathon Weekend”. This event was held in the context of realizing digital product development and strengthening the Unpad CDC (Career Development Center) which was held on March 22-23 2019 at the Bale Santika Basketball Hall, Padjadjaran University, Jatunangor. This competition was attended by approximately 100 people from various backgrounds. Two of them are students of Fikom Unpad, they are Nabilah Putri Nurhaliza (Communication Management 2015) and Raka P. Kostarian (Communication Science 2015) who won this competition and are entitled to a development fund of IDR 100,000,000 together with the team that carries Career Development application design idea called “Workaloka”.
The competition which lasted for 2 days was divided into two stages. The first stage the participants were divided into several groups, the composition, among others, consists of three elements, namely hustlers, hackers, and hipsters. This stage can be translated into a stage in developing the idea that is owned and then making the application design. The total of all participants who attended was formed into 11 groups. Nabilah and Raka, who initially registered themselves to participate in the Respectacular Unpad Hackathon Weekend, finally decided to join the same group with four other people. The process of developing this application design idea lasts for approximately 24 hours, a long and tiring process passed with various ideas and ideas from each group member. After going through a collaborative process of ideas, finally an application idea called “Workaloka” emerged.
The second stage was the presentation or pitching of the application design which was witnessed by 5 members of the Jury from various backgrounds, CEOs and Founders of large startups in Indonesia, VC (Venture Capitalist), VP Corporate Communication from Telkomsel, to the Director of Governance Unpad. Nabilah and Raka’s team got the opportunity to present the 6th place out of a total of 11 teams. In this session, the representatives appointed to present the draft application idea were Nabilah and Raka. It was at this stage that the Start Up idea was tested, which then showed that Workaloka was successful in winning the competition.
Workaloka’s victory was solely not because the application design idea offered was able to amaze the jury, but the concept brought by this team was the closest to the goals of career development itself. Nabilah explained, “The theme of this competition is Career Development while the others are more focused on Job Finder, so out of 11 participant is more focused only on job finder or online courses, but indeed the one with the closest theme in terms of basic career development is only Workaloka, nothing is similar ”. “While there were many job finder applications online courses, that’s where we got a gap, we saw that there was a spot which is empty, namely in the case of development or the development of skills and that is in the workshops and seminars that we offer in Workaloka application”, Add Raka.
Then an idea was created to create a platform called “Workaloka” which connects students with career development events, such as seminars, workshops and competitions. This platform also has a navigation feature of career, which is helpful for high school / vocational high school students found their interests and talents in college majors that will be selected later through information about a field or department displayed in this application. In the future, Nabilah and Raka hope that the Workaloka Application can further develop in providing its benefits according to their user needs.
