Celebrating Our Lecturers at IAMCR 2025: “Communicating Environmental Justice: Many Voices, One Planet”

In July 2025, three of our Communication Management Program’s lecturers; Professor, Dr. Eni Maryani, M.Si,  Dr. phil. Subekti W. Priyadharma, M.A, and Detta Rahmawan MA, are selected as presenters at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) annual conference held at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Themed “Communicating Environmental Justice: Many Voices, One Planet,” IAMCR 2025 convened over 1,700 participants from 70+ countries in more than 480 sessions addressing environmental communication, sustainability, inclusivity, and more.

Professor Eni Maryani was recognized at IAMCR 2025 by the Islam & Media Working Group (ISM/WG), receiving the Nile Award for her co-authored paper “Media Activism on Zakat for Women Victims of Violence in Indonesia.” This research explores how media-based philanthropy (zakat) can be mobilized to support female survivors of violence, thereby advancing gender justice via religious and media channels iamcr.org.

Her work aligns squarely with SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by advocating gender‐responsive media activism, and intersects with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through fostering social equity and protection for marginalized women.

Dr. phil. Subekti W. Priyadharma, M.A from Universitas Padjadjaran received the prestigious FAO/IAMCR Rural Communication Services (RCS) Award for his presentation titled “Developing a National Strategy for Enabling, Shaping, and Seeding Meaningful Community-Centered Connectivity in Rural Indonesia.” His research proposes a national roadmap to bridge the digital divide through participatory, community-led initiatives—highlighting gender-sensitive and culturally appropriate strategies rooted in a Theory of Change framework. This work resonates deeply with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) as well as SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), by empowering rural communities through meaningful connectivity.

Detta Rahmawan, MA was one of the presenter at the Environment, Science & Risk Communication Working Group – ESR. Hi presented a working paper entitled “Amplifying Diverse Stories of Environmental Youth Activism in Indonesia”. This study examines Indonesian online media coverage of environmental youth activism from 2021–2022, analyzing 350 articles through quantitative and qualitative content analysis. By revealing gaps and biases in media portrayals of Indonesian environmental youth activism, this study contributes to advancing several Sustainable Development Goals. Inclusive and accurate representation supports SDG 13 (Climate Action) by amplifying youth voices in climate discourse.
