The development of the field of communication in various sectors has produced rapidly growing professions related to the field of communication management science. The profession in the field of communication management is found in profit and non-profit organizations, private and government organizations, including internal and external communications role.
These developments lead to the need for the formation of professional associations in the field of management communication. Another reason is profession and competence related to management communication currently seen to be done by anyone with formal education background apart from communication management study program, not such as professions that already have professional education. For example, every doctor must take formal medical education first, but it doesn’t work like that for professions in communication field. Apart from that, there is still confusion on community and industry understanding of scientific disciplines and the competence of field from communication management alumni.
In various countries, associations in the field of communication management have started to be established, such as Communication Manager Association, Communication Media Management Association, and Association Management Services Communication. Some even have conducting certification tests named communication management professional certification.
Based on the explanation above, the Communication Management Study Program at Fikom Unpad will conduct a communication management professional association workshop. The event was held on November 28, 2019 at the Sindang Reret restaurant meeting room. In addition to the managers and lecturers of the Communication Management Study Program of Fikom Unpad, the event was also attended by the managers and lecturers of IISIP and Unisba Communication Management.
The event which was opened by the Dean of Fikom, Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S.Sos., SH, M.Si. delivered speakers from the National Professional Certification Agency, namely Henny Supriyati Widyaningsih, M.Si, and Communication Management Alumni represented by Wahyudin who works as Human Resources Communication Development Manager and fashion retail voters well-known in Indonesia. In addition, Yuni Miyansari from BPC Perhumas Bandung also shared her experiences in managing Perhumas as a public relations professional association in Indonesia.
It was agreed that a Communication Management Professional Association would be formed in 2020.
